About
Alexandra Coffey worked in music + media for years in Tokyo + Melbourne before devising her own system of bodywork therapy.
Derived from a combination of healing modalities; reflexology, acupressure, therapeutic deep-tissue, stomach massage, medicinal-grade aromatherapy, sound + yoga breathwork. Her method of bodywork therapy is a holistic deep-tissue physical treatment that covers not just the muscles of the body but also the skeletal system and the subtle body energy systems (qi or prana.)
Integrating and evolving these techniques to fit in with a simple philosophy of finding every bit of tension in the body and releasing it, as appropriate. Observing also, that the source of some residual tension in the body can be from emotional or stress-related reasons, as well as physical traumas and injuries.
Her Bodywork Therapy also recognises the body as one holistic organism and that dealing with one part in isolation is often not as effective as dealing with the whole person.
Bodywork Therapy has seen Alexandra travel the world and treat bodies of all types:
“I work a lot with children, elite athletes, the elderly and the chronically + terminally ill. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather spend my time doing.”
Bodywork Therapy is a holistic deep-tissue physical treatment that covers not just the muscles of the body but also the skeletal system and the subtle body energy systems (qi or prana.)
Alexandra Coffey’s bodywork technique is derived from a combination of healing modalities; some eastern forms of massage; shiatsu, reflexology, acupressure, therapeutic deep-tissue, Ayurvedic massage, medicinal-grade aromatherapy, and yoga breathwork.
Integrating and evolving these techniques to fit in with a simple philosophy of finding every bit of tension in the body and releasing it, as appropriate. This method is designed to find any residual tightness (tension in the body when at rest) or blockage or stagnation in the body and eliminate it.
Observing also, that the source of some residual tension in the body can be from emotional or stress-related reasons, as well as physical traumas and injuries.
“I suffered from a host of ailments for much of my teens and twenties; chronic endometriosis, poly-cystic ovarian syndrome and major depression. I explored countless healing modalities with varying degrees of efficacy-- eventually, it occurred to me to create my own system of healing, which I've been doing with great success ever since."
Alexandra's method of Bodywork Therapy also recognises the body as one holistic organism and that dealing with one part in isolation is often not as effective as dealing with the whole person.
The Method
What to Expect
First-timers are usually a little nervous and unsure of what to expect during a bodywork session with me.
I encourage clients to fast for two hours prior to a treatment so their tummy's are empty. This aids healing and makes light work of the stomach massage component of the treatment.
You arrive, kick your shoes off, drink a little water and fill out a client intake form. In truth, this is merely a legality and a formality. I don't need to know anything about a body before I treat it.
I then encourage you to empty your bladder and disrobe down to your undies. I keep clients swathed in towels and always begin a treatment with the client laying face down as I access the atlas bone - that's the wide one at the back of your neck that supports the weight of your head. I do this as it's a discrete and strong indicator of your postural alignment, it also gives the client and opportunity to experience my hands and feel safe and relaxed - it also releases naturally occurring DMT into the bloodstream which activates the 'journeying' component of the treatment.
I then systematically work my way down the body. The client is then invited to roll over slowly onto their back. I use weighted blankets, pillows to prop the head and an eye cover for privacy and relaxation.
I don't talk much during treatments. Some clients are chatty and talk non-stop. Others a little and first and then silent meditation. That's entirely up to you.
I then systematically work my way up the front side of the body. EVERYTHING is accesses with the exception of the erogenous zones.
The treatment is then completed by working extensively on the head and face. My crystal quartz sound bowl generally sends clients to another dimension where they can journey, rest, cry, snore and/or dream for 5-10 minutes in privacy and peace.
I then gently stir the client, present them with some water and encourage them to get up slowly. We then chat a while and I send you on your way.
Clients often journal and meditate for a while as they integrate before making their way home.
My clinic is located at 165 Darby St, Cooks Hill.
